It depends of what do you wanna do

Mexico city is a very big city where yo can do what ever you want! but be careful because is a little unsafe and it has Six Flags ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico_City

Zacatecas is a Colonial city that is like an European but is not a big city you can go and tour one day
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zacatecas%2C_Zacatecas

Monterrey is a big city too but is a little expensive but you can do a lot of things like shopping, museums, natural things, a walk ;) and is 3 hours from Texas
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monterrey

Cancun has beautiful beaches and you know cancun is very famous

Chichen Itza, Tulum

Puebla Oaxaca Huatulco Acapulco Guadalajara

there's a lot to do here;)

Well Morelia, Michoacan is pretty awesome. They have some neat tours to go on. There are also tours to go to Patzcuaro from Morelia and then you can see the beautiful lake Patcuaro and surrounding area. Patzcuaro is also where you can see the Purepecha lifestyle. Let me tell you it is awesome. I highly recommend Michoacan. And it is not all expensive. In the town of Quiroga you can get a hearty meal for like 40 pesos which is less than 4 dollars.

Have Fun and Enjoy.

Go to the blog sight Hungry gringos. blog spot.com.
Its my son and daughter-in-laws blog sight. They are currently in the Yucatan Peninsula for a year and have posted some pictures of various cities and town there.
If you're interested in Mayan temples, pristine beaches, colorful flora and interesting fauna you can't beat this area.
How about a beachfront hotel for $25/night?
Not to mention great seafood and lots of activities.

What do you want to do?

If you want to party, go to the Cancun and Mayan Riviera area. There are lots of clubs and bars to hang out.

If you want a good beach experience in a clean city with a little less people try either Ixtapa or Puerto Vallarta. (The Pacific coast has better surf and REAL beaches - the Caribbean side is more calm and less sandy.)

If you want to chill and relax, try Cozumel. (Near Cancun but different atmosphere.)

If you want a quaint Mexico experience, go to San Miguel Allende. This is a small town in the middle of Mexico that has restored much of its colonial heritage.

Mexico City is OK - but not a tourist city for the most part.

Cabo is a great place that tourists like to go. You could also go to Mexico City. There's a whole bunch of sweet stuff in that area. I have only been to the border cities (Like Tijuana) which are very ghetto and I would avoid. Driving through them is quite an experience though, and very humbling when you look at the hills of TJ compared to the US.

yes the new airport is sooo easy and very nice looking too. Once you leave the airport (the new one and there is the old one) they do speak english or have someone there that does, the information booth also speaks english. i have an ESL school and we always pick our teachers up there. Once you leave customs, you go through a glass door and then there are people taking your luggage - don't let them because you will have to speak english, instead go to the booth on the left or right and order a taxi for your destination, if you look for one on the street you will have to walk...and there are wierdo's on the street there - it isn't the most friendly touristic neigborhood. hope this helps

Overall I found it fairly easy, far easier than Los Angeles. I don't think that it will be a problem. People are friendly and willing to help. Hope you enjoy your trip.
